Ingrid Westlake

Qualified gemologist (FGA, DGA, GG), I have enjoyed tutoring online gemmology students for the past 11 years. Being a strong believer that education never stops with a diploma, I am currently enrolled as CertHE in History of Art and Architecture with Oxford University, catching up with a field I have always been passionate about but never studied until now.

  • And who is sporting a Grayson Perry @alanmeasles yoga mat? Me!! 🧘🏻‍♀️
All stars⭐️aligned thanks to my friend @ekatha and @victoriamirogallery : eternally grateful!
Exercise every day is a non-negotiable condition in our family: I listen to art books/podcasts when I run but how could I fit art with yoga or @flowlift without taking myself too seriously🤪? Mission accomplished thanks to Grayson Perry’s deprecating sense of humor and this piece from his Super Rich Interior Decoration exhibition. Zoom in on details.
  • 🥰If you say so 💁🏻‍♀️but truly, San Diego is where I can be found💆🏻‍♀️
Wings @colettemillerwings
Mural @wrdsmth
  • Paying a visit to Shepard Fairey @obeygiant and his recent addition to Los Angeles murals, the brief was to jump over those two parked 🚗
I think the kiddos did really well😂
More seriously, #defenddignity is one of the best Shepard Fairey I have seen: I just wished it could go out of style one day, if only because it would mean significant political improvements were achieved🤞
  • With his 🕸Form Constants🕸 paintings, Kelsey Brookes presents the primordial brain at work, zooming down to a microscopic level where 🕸mental cobwebs🕸 have never looked so good.
Perception & Hallucination @kelseybrookes on @quintgallery until Jan 18.
📷 by @gladkitty 🌀The concept of form constants was developed by Heinrich Klüver in 1926. 🌀Klüver systematically studied recurrent patterns observed by users of mescaline during hallucinations, near-death experiences and other altered states of consciousness. 🌀Four basic patterns of visual perception emerged, classified as tunnels, spirals, lattices and cobwebs. 🌀Rooted in our collective unconscious, these form constants have become irresistible templates for Kelsey to overlay with the exact shapes of the drug molecules (mescaline, psilocybin…) which grant access to such visual experiences.
  • 💥Tonight is the night to get totally sucked into the microscopic beauty of Kelsey Brookes’ redefinition of how our brain works💥
Exhibition opening @quintgallery from 5 till 7pm.
See you there @kelseybrookes
  • I 🏃🏻‍♀️ into an advent calendar🗓, San Diego style💛: I had to stop and snap it📷
#whatisee #arteverywhere
  • Chanelling a little Miami-art vibe from Los Angeles🌴 @weismanartfoundation
My kind of pets😻, my kind of pool💦
Floating reclining sculpture by Renate Gobel and my cool cat is a Fernando Botero.
  • Oh Boy! I must be living in a parallel universe🌈 How on Earth does my husband wear THAT shirt perfectly echoing THAT artwork while visiting the Pattern & Decoration exhibition @moca ?🤩
This stunner is Raj (1972) by Arlene Slavin @arleneslavin and yes, in my books, “decorative” is never a bad word🌈
  • Mirror, Mirror, who is the pop-est of them all?💛
@emeraudecolette lighting up that Roy Lichtenstein 1969 Mirror #1 @thebroadmuseum like...👌
  • Embroidery🧵? Knitting🧶? Think again and look closer 🔎
Dee Shapiro @deeshapiro1 here pays homage to all the so-called “feminine” and not deemed “fine” enough types of arts: she paints it all, stitch by stitch, using a pastry tip attachment to her brush because, you know, women make their best art in the kitchen🤦🏻‍♀️ Look at this beauty from the Pattern & Decorative exhibition @moca and erase all these art stereotypes from your mind. Pretty Please💗
  • Going for a run in between two rain storms, San Diego style🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️: always the best decision to reflect, in all senses of the term🙌
  • Woke up more Grinch than Thankful: shame on me😈but what you see is what you get😉 then I looked out the window and saw this🌈 and then how thankful I am🙏🏼 #seeingthelight
#happythanksgivingeveryone
  • That feeling when there are only a few more hours of school before a long weekend🖤
Spinning on Thomas Heatherwick Spun chairs @magis_official @hammer_museum
  • 🌈Kudos to @hammer_museum for making its entrance so colorful and enticing, thanks to this stair installation by Yunhee Min 🌈
So thankful for my #museumkids I did not need to coax into getting in a museum that day👌 and still a very interesting experience to observe this painting (Up Close in Distance : bars, flags, pools) unfolding horizontally.
  • 🌵If your cacti don’t have that dichroic glow at sunrise, it is probably because they are not @artcontraptions by James Peterson🌵
This is part of Cacti🌵, an Art on the Outside program by @wehoarts on Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills🌵
Will put more of these beauties in my Stories🌵
  • Descending Caryatids by Alice Lees Studio @weismanartfoundation ❤️
  • Lari Pittman aimed to make a tableau vivant out of a still-life, and he totally did that💥
  • 💛🖤That Allen Jones in the Weisman Art Foundation garden is like Pop Art meeting Calder 💛🖤
And it gives the entire street goose BUMPS: check out the street sign in the background🤣
  • Shape it up @hauserwirth with more Philip Guston than you can think of. On until early January.
  • 🌊Clear your mind morning run in November🌊 #livingthedream

My blog is about my constant reinvention, also called living a full life as long as you are prepared to never stop looking. It’s about sharing an aesthetic love of life and how using art as a filter or prism enables me (and hopefully you!) to reach a more grounded state of mind.
